Lucy thinks New Zealand is best experienced as one long, extraordinary road trip, and she will gently say so if a client arrives asking for a driver. Not because self-drive is cheaper, but because the roadside fruit stall, the unmarked carpark with the waterfall trail behind it, and the small-town dairy ice cream are the moments that make the itinerary feel like theirs rather than ours. She has two daughters who love getting into nature, and she takes every opportunity to test what she recommends firsthand.
